PADI Divemaster
Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational diving begins with the PADI Divemaster programme. Working closely with a PADI instructor, you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level.
PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.
During the PADI Divemaster programme, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organise and solve problems. You put this knowledge into action through an internship, or series of practical training exercises. Knowledge development consists of 12 topics, ranging from dive theory to assisting student divers in training.
Prerequisites for the course are that you must be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or PADI Rescue Diver (or have a qualifying certification from another training organisation), have 20 logged dives and be 18 years old. The minimum number of logged dives you will need to gain certification as a PADI Divemaster is 60.
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
Are you looking for something extraordinary? To do something others can only dream of? To open doors you didn’t even know existed? All of this, and more, awaits you as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
A PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor is able to offer everything from basic Discover Scuba Diving programmes to entry-level professional Divemaster courses.
To qualify for training on an Instructor Development Course (IDC) as a PADI Open Water Instructor, you must have held a dive certification for at least six months, have 60 logged dives that include night, deep and navigation dives, be a PADI Divemaster or Assistant Instructor (or be an instructor in good standing with another training organisation for at least six months – check with a PADI Course Director or PADI office for qualifying credentials), have proof of CPR training within the last 24 months, and have a medical clearance signed by a physician.
To gain entry into an Instructor Evaluation (IE), which you must pass to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, you must have completed your IDC and have a minimum of 100 dives.
PADI Specialty Instructor
A PADI Specialty Instructor is the next step up from an Open Water Scuba Instructor.
A Specialty Instructor, as the name suggests, is able to teach Specialty courses, on top of all the normal courses offered by an OWSI.
There are three ways to become a PADI Specialty Instructor – with a Course Director, using your experience to apply directly to PADI, or write your own outline.
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
You tell your students to aim for PADI Master Scuba Diver.
You also want to tell them that you can take them all the way there because you’re a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer. The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating sets you apart from other dive instructors by showing your commitment to continuing your dive training and being prepared to help others continue their training as well.
To qualify as a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, you must be a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor with five PADI Specialty Instructor certifications, and you must have certified at least 25 PADI divers.
PADI IDC Staff Instructor
As a seasoned PADI instructor, you have wisdom and experience to share with up-and-coming PADI lead ers.
And you know that continuing your education never ends. As an Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor, you help bring up the next generation of PADI instructors while gaining in-depth instructor-trainer knowl edge.
Because IDC Staff Instructors are an integral part of the PADI IDC, you set the stage for moving on to P ADI Course Director as you present topics in the IDC and help shape PADI Divemasters and Assistant Instructors into PADI Open Water Instructors.
In addition to all the courses you can teach as a PADI instructor, you can also teach PADI Assistant Instr uctor courses, assist PADI Course Directors in conducting the PADI Instructor Development Course and instructor-level continuing education.
PADI Master Instructor
PADI Master Instructors embody the essence of a true dive professional having demonstrated a thorough understanding of the PADI system of diver education, and put it into practice by training 150 or more PADI divers.
They are dive industry leaders who help to shape the development of future dive courses.
The PADI Master Instructor rating is unique in the PADI system – it is the one rating that you do not earn through training. You earn it by exemplifying what it means to be a PADI instructor in what you do.
Requirements include being a renewed, teaching-status IDC Staff Instructor, have been a PADI instructor for at least two years, be a current Emergency First Response Instructor, have certified at least 150 PADI divers, and possess a complete understanding of the PADI system of diver education.
