ApeksApeks XTX200 Tungsten (SRP: £468.50)

MARK: An excellent breathe in all positions and the adjusters (venturi and breathing resistance) actually work. It has a user-changeable exhaust tee, a comfy mouthpiece and basically looks the biz in its nifty PVD finish.
DAVE: A very smooth breathe. Dry every which way. Looks good, breathes well – what more could you want.
JIM: Lovely. Very comfortable, a beautiful breathe every which way up. Absolutely gorgeous.
LOU: I really liked this one, so easy to breathe, you’d hardly know it was there. Excellent.

ScubaproScubapro MK25/S600 (SRP: £679)

MARK: A great breathe. Very lightweight – perfect for the travelling diver. The cheapest way to go titanium, if you are that way inclined, but still a fair old wedge for a regulator.
DAVE: I’m a bit of a Scubapro reg fan and this doesn’t disappoint. It’s a really good breathe, but it is a bit pricey.
JIM: Also gorgeous – absolutely stunning. Good breathe, comfortable
LOU: Not as good as the Apeks for me, but it’s still a really nice reg.

PoseidonPoseidon Xstream Duration with 70cm hose (SRP: £429.40)

MARK: It has a powerful purge and the side exhaust keeps the bubbles away from your face. I am still not personally sold on the styling, but the performance cannot be faulted.
DAVE: No knobs or levers to mess around with – Poseidon regs just breathe well irrespective of depth or position in the water and this one doesn’t disappoint.
JIM: I couldn’t feel much difference between this model and the other reg in the Poseidon range (the Cyklon 5000), which shows how good its cheaper sibling is! If you wanted your fillings knocked out by the power of the purge, buy a Poseidon, but for me, Granny’s false teeth felt more comfortable than the mouthpiece.
LOU: I like the way the side exhaust keeps the bubbles from your face, and it’s a very good breathe.
